About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Architecture Lead to join our Life Science Data Enablement team at UCB. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for shaping and implementing our data architecture vision across the research data landscape, with a focus on accelerating early and preclinical pharmaceutical research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and implement data architecture strategies across critical data types, including omics data.
  • Conduct landscape assessments of external data management systems and vendors, and lead proof-of-concept/pilot projects.
  • Manage data ingestion from external sources and develop and maintain data repositories.
  • Support the data science community in providing sufficient data foundations and repositories to develop data products.
  • Perform project management roles to lead specific data initiatives.
  • Establish computational strategies to accelerate research activities.
  • Develop and implement data governance practices across the data landscape.
  • Communicate regularly with data, digital, and leadership forums.
  • Liaise with business stakeholders to identify data challenges and opportunities for improvement.
Requirements
  • BSc (+PhD desirable) in natural sciences, computer science, or engineering, with strong skills and experience in computational biology/chemistry, statistics, informatics, or mathematics.
  • 5+ years' experience in a research IT/Informatics role.
  • Strong biological domain knowledge relevant to therapeutic discovery.
  • Expertise in data types generated and utilized in early and preclinical research, including NCE, NBE, and GT.
  • Experience in large data/information curation, integration, and management, including commercial and open-source datasets.
  • Expertise in ontology, reference data, and metadata management across life science/research data types.
  • Experience managing or supporting R&D data management systems, such as DNA Nexus.
  • Programming skills in relevant languages and scientific computing environments and tools.
