About the Role

NHS Scotland is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our Aseptic Services team at University Hospital Monklands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the safe and effective provision of aseptically-prepared products that support patient care.
  • Provide leadership to the pharmacy technical workforce and support their education, training, and development.
  • Work closely with the Chief Pharmacy Technician and other Senior Pharmacy Technicians to develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Deliver induction and competency-based training and assessment to pharmacy staff.
  • Supervise and lead a team of pharmacy technicians, prioritizing and organizing routine daily tasks.
  • Identify and manage risks, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Participate in departmental weekend and public holiday working, contributing to the general working of the pharmacy department.

Requirements

  • National certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent.
  • SVQ Level III.
  • Registered pharmacy technicians with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Higher National certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent.
  • Accredited final accuracy checking qualification (PACT - aseptic checking).
  • Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as per GPhC guidance.
  • Minimum of 4 years post-qualification experience as a qualified pharmacy technician in a hospital setting, including time spent in aseptic services.
  • Experience in supervising other staff or a functional area of pharmacy.
  • Experience in developing and implementing SOPs.
  • Ability to work under pressure, accurately, and demonstrate accurate numeracy skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively using clear written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to identify and manage risks.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • SVQ assessor qualification (or willingness to work towards).
  • Experience in line management of staff.

Contract Details

  • Permanent contract.
  • Full-time position.
  • 37 hours per week.

Location and Working Pattern

  • This role will be based at University Hospital Monklands.
  • The working pattern for this role is Monday to Friday, 9:00-5:00.
