About the Job

We are seeking an exceptional Clinical Biochemist to lead our team and provide clinical, professional, and technical leadership for the delivery of a comprehensive Paediatric Clinical Biochemistry service. The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist paediatric interpretive advice to colleagues within the Trust, and to medical and scientific consultant colleagues in Primary Care and other Trusts.

The successful candidate will be accountable for the provision and development of the Biochemistry services within the Trust, and will contribute to national and international strategic planning for the effective delivery of Paediatric Biochemistry services. Additionally, they will be responsible for coordinating and undertaking research and development within the department and Trust, and participating in multi-centre clinical trials.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Clinical Biochemistry, with a Master's degree or equivalent, and registration as a Clinical Scientist in Clinical Biochemistry with the Health Care Professions Council. They will also have experience in research and a good record of achievement in research, development, and audit activities.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide clinical guidance and scientific advice to all grades of medical and nursing staff on the selection, performance, and interpretation of clinically relevant tests.
  2. Ensure the maintenance of and participate in the departmental duty biochemist/clinical liaison rota.
  3. Ensure that a Biochemistry clinical advice out-of-hours rota is maintained.
  4. Contribute to national and international strategic planning for the effective delivery of Paediatric Biochemistry services.
  5. Coordinate and undertake research and development within the department and Trust, and participate in multi-centre clinical trials.
