Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 midwife to work within the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The role requires knowledge and understanding of the Public Health England national antenatal and newborn screening programmes. We are looking for a candidate who has experience working with pregnant women who are HIV positive, holds the NIPE qualification, and has a Haemoglobinopathy screening qualification or is embarking on one.

Main Duties

The post holder will support the NUH Trust Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinators in delivering the national Antenatal and newborn screening Programmes. This will involve audit, practice change and development, support with local and national data collection and audits, Quarterly KPI and annual data submissions, contributing to annual reports, education and training of registered and non-registered staff members, monitoring and actioning national screening programme failsafes, and attending national and local meetings.

Person Specification
  • Registered Midwife band 6
  • Teaching and Assessing Qualification
  • Demonstrates continuous personal and professional development
  • Experience working with HIV positive pregnant women
  • NIPE qualification
  • Pegasus or Genetic Risk Assessment and Counselling course
  • Experience at Band 6 for a minimum of 3 years
  • Supervision and evidence of ability to mentor non-registered staff and midwifery/nursing students
  • Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relatives, carers, and staff
