About the Role

As a Senior Building Management Systems Engineer at HDR, you will be responsible for designing and coordinating BMS controls design on projects, working closely with the design team to produce coordinated designs that are technically compliant and of high quality. You will also oversee project site works snagging and testing, and be responsible for taking performance briefs and ER documents and putting them into a final BMS or EMS design. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, coordinating, and managing the BMS design on projects, establishing client briefs, technical requirements, scope of works, cost plans, and agreeing deliverables, specifications, and drawings scope for all projects with your Group Leader.
  • Agreeing the level of service and project design duties with your supervisor for each project, understanding the relationship with fee.
  • Assisting your supervisor with monitoring BMS design resource requirements for each project within your control.
  • Carrying out BMS concept design to detailed design, tender, and contract on-site supervision to completion, ensuring projects are undertaken in accordance with design briefs and completion deadlines are achieved.
  • Liaising with the design team to produce coordinated designs that are technically compliant, of consistent quality, and standard. Providing a positive contribution to design/project meetings. Maintaining regular 'in-house' design reviews and checks.
  • Monitoring and controlling project progress, design variations, and project financial budgets.
  • Maintaining excellent client and design team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Pursuing new business opportunities where appropriate with existing and new clients.
  • Assisting your supervisor with identifying and implementing your personal training/CPD requirements. Helping develop working practices in the Company.
  • Implementing and managing QA systems and procedures on all projects.
  • Implementing Company Health and Safety. Ensuring all designs respond to the CDM regulations.
  • Implementing requirements for ISO9001 & ISO14001.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have excellent presentation and communication skills, industry experience (ideally at least 5 years), especially in designing BMS systems across various construction sectors and in particular the commercial, mission-critical, and residential sectors. They will also have skills in project managing ongoing jobs with limited supervision, experience in the same or similar position, and competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint. The ability to project a positive and professional attitude at all times is essential. Educational qualifications to a degree level or relevant work experience are required. Good knowledge and use of appropriate project and design analysis software, personable, and a 'can-do' attitude with resource management experience are also necessary. The ability to establish rapport and good working relationships within the project team and Clients, and to work as part of a team and collaboratively and cooperatively.
