Job Title: Lighting Technical Director

We are seeking a highly skilled Lighting Technical Director to join our team at Industrial Light & Magic. As a Lighting Technical Director, you will be responsible for producing high-quality CG lighting and rendering for complex shots in high-end photo-realistic visual effects.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design and create the lighting and look of computer-generated objects and scenes.
  2. Responsible for the final CG scene assembly, lighting, and rendering of very complex shots.
  3. Work closely with Lighting Supervisors and CG Supervisors to determine the best approach to solving CG challenges and developing the final look.
  4. Create lighting setups and/or work within current setups.
  5. Create efficient rendering setups in order to optimise render farm usage.
Requirements:
  1. In-depth understanding of the VFX pipeline from modelling through animation, texturing, rendering, and compositing.
  2. Real-world expertise in lighting and photography.
  3. Demonstrable advanced Lighting and Rendering experience within a VFX environment.
  4. Previous experience performing shot Look Dev tasks.
  5. Exhibits excellent listening and communication skills, able to receive direction and feedback.
  6. Excellent aesthetic eye, anticipates potential problems and uses knowledge of how to use the tools to achieve the desired look.
  7. Ability to collaborate within a team while also being autonomous as needed.
  8. Ability to pick up new techniques and learn new software quickly and easily.
  9. Katana & Renderman knowledge are advantageous.
  10. Knowledge of Python and/or MEL scripting is essential.
  11. Good knowledge of Nuke or similar compositing package, including how to use layers and passes to tweak a shot after it has been rendered.
  12. A solid understanding of Linux-based operating systems.
  13. Basic knowledge of physically plausible shading techniques.
  14. Strong knowledge of lighting techniques and a good understanding of colour-space.
  15. Pipeline scripting ability.
  16. Excellent knowledge of Renderman and other unbiased rendering systems.

This role is Hybrid, which means the employee will be required to work a minimum of 2 days on-site per week at a Company designated location, and occasionally from home.
