Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Lighting Technical Director to join our team at Industrial Light & Magic. As a Lighting Technical Director, you will be responsible for producing high-quality CG lighting and rendering for complex shots in high-end photo-realistic visual effects.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design and create the lighting and look of computer-generated objects and scenes.
  2. Responsible for the final CG scene assembly, lighting and rendering of very complex shots.
  3. Collaborate with Lighting Supervisors and CG Supervisors to determine the best approach to solving CG challenges and developing the final look.
  4. Develop efficient rendering setups to optimize render farm usage.

Requirements

  1. Deep understanding of the VFX pipeline from modeling through animation, texturing, rendering and compositing.
  2. Expertise in lighting and photography.
  3. Advanced Lighting and Rendering experience within a VFX environment.
  4. Previous experience performing shot Look Dev tasks.
  5. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  6. Aesthetic eye with the ability to anticipate potential problems and use knowledge of tools to achieve the desired look.
  7. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  8. Ability to learn new techniques and software quickly.
  9. Knowledge of Katana, Renderman, Python, MEL scripting, Nuke, and Linux operating systems.
  10. Understanding of physically plausible shading techniques, lighting techniques, and color-space.
  11. Pipeline scripting ability.
  12. Excellent knowledge of Renderman and unbiased rendering systems.

This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum of 2 days on-site per week at a Company designated location, and occasional remote work.
