Job Summary

The Mapping Technologist 3 is a critical role within the Adirondack Park Agency, responsible for managing computer-based cartographic information and developing Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This position requires a strong background in GIS, cartography, and photogrammetry, as well as excellent project planning and documentation skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage computer-based cartographic information and develop GIS systems
  • Perform photogrammetry-related tasks, including inspecting and evaluating contractor-prepared aerial photography
  • Operate analytical stereoplotters and perform project planning and documentation
  • Supervise subordinate staff and determine work assignments and priorities
  • Review, monitor, and evaluate staff and work products
  • Develop and maintain computer-based cartographic information systems tools and procedures

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, including or supplemented by 21 semester credit hours in GIS, cartography, and/or photogrammetry
  • 9 additional semester credit hours in any combination of cartography, photogrammetry, GIS, computer science, remote sensing, photo interpretation, statistics, and/or surveying
  • 3 years of professional experience in making recommendations and decisions relating to the selection, planning, and production of mapping projects and independent research and evaluation activities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience in supervising subordinate staff

Working Conditions

This position is assigned to the Adirondack Park Agency and reports to the Deputy Director, Planning.
