Job PurposeAs the Lead Caretaker/Site Supervisor, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety, security, and functionality of our school buildings and grounds. Your primary responsibilities include:
- Providing leadership and management to a team of Caretakers/Site Supervisors, ensuring they are well-supported and equipped to perform their duties.
- Performing and overseeing general maintenance tasks, including carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, drainage, painting, and decorating.
- Coordinating the management of resources and stock levels across multiple sites, ensuring timely replenishment and effective use of resources.
- Organising and overseeing contractors working on-site, ensuring that all work is completed to a high standard and in line with health & safety regulations.
- Developing and implementing maintenance schedules, ensuring all planned and reactive maintenance tasks are completed efficiently.
- Monitoring and enforcing security arrangements to prevent unauthorised access, theft, and vandalism across all sites.
- Responding to emergencies such as fire, flood, or break-ins, coordinating the response and ensuring the safety and security of the site.
- Maintaining external areas across the academies, ensuring they are free from hazards such as litter, ice, and leaves.
- Utilising IT systems to communicate, manage maintenance records, and report on site conditions.
- Fostering positive relationships with staff, pupils, parents, and visitors, ensuring a professional and supportive environment.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience in a leadership role within site maintenance, preferably in a school or educational setting.
- Strong practical skills in general maintenance tasks, with a basic understanding of electrical work, plumbing, and carpentry.
- Proficiency in IT, particularly in using Microsoft Office and mobile technology.
- Excellent organisational skills, with strong literacy and numeracy abilities.
- Outstanding verbal communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and maintain confidentiality.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and creating a safe environment for children and young people.
- Physical capability to undertake demanding work, with the ability to lead by example.
- Full, current driving licence and willingness to travel between site locations.
