Job Title: Clinical Lead in Wound Care

Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Clinical Lead in Wound Care to join our team. As a Clinical Lead, you will be responsible for providing clinical leadership to the staff working in the dressing clinics and have clinical oversight.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be reporting to the Tissue Viability Team leader, delivering evidence-based practice and be able to work independently and autonomously within clinical practice. You will also be supporting the strategic role of developing our Dressing Clinic Service.

Main Duties
  1. Provide clinical leadership to the staff working in the central dressing clinic and have clinical oversight, estimated a day a week at other Trust Dressing clinics in Cheshire West.
  2. Work collaboratively with the wider health, social care and other third sector agencies to ensure the patients needs are met.
  3. Placing the patient at the centre of all decisions, reinforcing the concept of a more streamlined patient journey, with minimal avoidable delays, and an emphasis on people achieving independence whilst improving the quality of care.
  4. Understand the skills required from the dressing clinic team.
  5. Provide effective, evidence-based care based on knowledge of relevant evidence, current research, good practice, and policy developments.
  6. Provide clinical leadership including supervision to the team.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have:

  • Registered General Nurse Qualification
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Accredited courses in tissue viability and leg ulcer management
  • Post basic qualifications at degree level
  • Evidence of teaching and assessing
  • Leadership course

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Teaching qualification
  • Computer/IT skills
  • Willingness to work towards a degree including module in specialist area.

The successful candidate will also have:

  • Evidence of knowledge within wound care and leg ulcer care
  • Awareness of national and local priorities and changing trends in specialist area
  • Involved in clinical audit.
  • Working on own initiative and as part of a team
  • To be able to demonstrate continuing professional development
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively

Desirable experience includes:

  • Knowledge/experience of community nursing
  • Experience in clinical audit

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven post registration experience some of which is in a relevant/associated area
  • Experience of contributing towards audit/research
  • Experience of contributing to the teaching and mentoring of staff

Desirable experience includes:

  • Experience in hospital/community setting
  • Experience in wound and leg ulcer management
  • Evidence of involvement in clinical audit
  • Evidence of resource management
