Civil Engineering Graduate Scheme

Network Rail is seeking talented individuals to join its 2-year Civil Engineering graduate scheme. This program is designed to provide graduates with the skills and experience needed to succeed in the field of civil engineering.
The scheme is focused on developing knowledge, experience, and ability in all aspects of civil engineering, while improving awareness of the impact of decisions on passenger and freight users. Graduates will have a genuine impact on the UK's drive towards Net Zero through the sustainable management of the railway infrastructure.
What You'll Be DoingGraduates will start with a period of business familiarisation, gaining an understanding of the railway system across various disciplines and departments. This will be followed by formal placements within their chosen discipline, where they will contribute to the delivery of major investments and learn how to manage and maintain the railway asset efficiently and effectively.
Throughout the scheme, graduates will be exposed to a variety of placements and activities across their discipline, including track, structures, and geotechnics. They will experience everything from how the railway infrastructure is assessed, maintained, designed, and renewed.
Who We're Looking ForWe're looking for diverse and logical thinkers who can find creative solutions to challenging problems. Graduates should be resourceful, hardworking, good at managing their time, and self-motivated. They should have great communication skills, be able to engage with people at all levels, and be good at building relationships with their peers and colleagues.
What You'll Get Out of ItGraduates will have the opportunity to register with and cover the costs for the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). They will also receive structured training and development, including four modules of technical training and several leadership modules. This will set them on a trajectory to become a qualified Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) within a target of 3-4 years and 5-6 years respectively.
After the two-year graduate scheme, graduates will continue to be supported by their Supervising Civil Engineer as they transition into their first appointment, where they will continue with the next step on their professional development journey.
