Job Title: Flight Data Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Flight Data Specialist to join our team at L3Harris Technologies. As a Flight Data Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing an outsourced Flight Data Monitoring service to aircraft operators worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process raw, recorded flight data into the appropriate engineering units using aviation technical documentation.
  • Validate configuration work and become a subject matter expert in the team.
  • Perform readouts from Flight Data Recorders (FDR), Cockpit Voice Recorders (CVR), and other data sources.
  • Develop new Logical Frame Layout (LFL) documents and support customers during the configuration and setup of their Flight Data Monitoring program.
  • Version control of LFLs and release updated versions to the system.
  • Assist staff to process and convert FDR data in different formats.
  • Prepare reports documenting the recording quality of aircraft sensors.

Secondary Tasks:

  • Identify bugs or inefficiencies in the system and liaise with the Software Development team to find appropriate fixes.
  • Reverse-engineer FDR files.
  • Review abnormal recorded data and determine the cause.
  • Provide support and guidance to customers on data recording matters.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests for analysis or supply of data.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of various forms of binary encoded data and the ability to work with data at the lowest levels.
  • Appreciation of large matrix mathematics.
  • Customer service orientated.
  • Appreciation of ARINC standards 573/717/767/647A.
  • Knowledge of Data Acquisition Units and Data Recorders (DFDAU/ FDR/ QAR).
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Working at pace.
