About The Role

At Dyer & Butler, we are seeking skilled Highways Operatives to join our Melksham Depot team, working alongside our highways teams in Wiltshire to keep communities moving.

The role is ideal for individuals who enjoy manual outdoor work, looking to develop their skills, and be trained to contribute to road construction and maintenance in the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team undertaking highways repairs, including potholes, patching, drainage, footways, and general highway maintenance.
  • Utilize technology (tablets, apps) to input safety data and maintenance records.
  • Operate plant and equipment where trained, necessary for day-to-day tasks.
  • Take responsibility for vehicles, plant, and materials in your charge.
  • Provide direction and supervision to less experienced operatives when necessary.
  • Undertake winter and emergency maintenance activities outside regular working hours on a standby rota.

Requirements:

  • Clean driving license
  • Commitment to Health and Safety
  • Good communication skills and basic literacy and numeracy
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and undertake manual work
  • LGV Class C driving license or willingness to support investment in LGV Class C training during the probationary period
  • CSCS Card

Desirable:

  • Previous highways experience
  • New Roads and Street Works (NRSWA) Operative Accreditation
  • Lantra 12d
