About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Consultant Haematologist to join our well-integrated team at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a leading haemato-oncology department, we offer an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to contribute to the delivery of high-quality cancer haematological therapies.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to our multi-consultant outpatient clinics, including assessment of new and review patients. They will also provide cover to non-malignant haematology patients on a 1 in 9 on-call rota. The postholder will work within the broad haemato-oncology team and a particular interest in haemato-pathology would be welcome.

The appointee will be expected to contribute actively to the departments research portfolio, participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and contribute to the higher specialist training of specialist registrars in haematology. They will also be expected to contribute to other aspects of audit which may apply to haematology.

We anticipate that the appointee will take part in the Royal College of Pathologists CPD programme and become a member of the Northern Regional Haematologists Group (NRHG), which has extremely active CPD, audit and research activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to multi-consultant outpatient clinics, including assessment of new and review patients.

Person Specification
  • Primary Medical Qualification.
  • Special skills training in the specialty.
  • Involvement with management and project leadership within the specialty.
  • Evidence of leadership / project management.
  • Experience of supervising junior medical staff.
  • Experience of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
  • Postgraduate qualification in medical education.
  • Evidence of involvement in and understanding of research methodology and publication of findings.
  • Research/critical review of literature.
  • Flexible approach to service delivery and committed approach to development.
  • A commitment to personal / unit CPD.
  • Ability and willingness to work the on-call rota.
  • Ability and willingness to work a more flexible pattern of working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.
