Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Specialist to join our team at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust. As a Clinical Perfusionist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and success of cardiac surgery patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Equipment Preparation: Prepare equipment and disposable items for cardiopulmonary bypass procedures, ensuring all necessary items are available and functioning properly.
  • Clinical Expertise: Operate the heart-lung machine and auxiliary equipment, maintaining patient physiological parameters during cardiopulmonary bypass. Take corrective action as needed to address changing conditions.
  • Procedure Support: Prepare equipment and disposables for autologous blood salvage procedures, both intra and post-operatively, for cardiac and other surgical specialties.
  • Diagnostic Skills: Undertake and interpret blood gas analysis, thromboelastography testing, including platelet mapping and fibrinogen analysis when necessary.
  • Safety Protocols: Set up and operate relevant monitoring and safety devices, ensuring patient safety at all times.
  • Procedure Specialization: Prepare and operate equipment and disposables for vacuum-assisted venous drainage and carbon dioxide flushing of the operative field.
  • Training and Development: Participate in research and development projects, assisting in their initiation and control. Conduct informal in-service and external formal educational sessions with other perfusionists, nursing, and medical staff as required.
Job Requirements:
  • Education and Qualifications: Full UK Registration CCPS (Clinical Certificates in Perfusion Sciences)
  • Experience: Experience in independent working and fulfilling a 24/7 on-call rota.
