Radiation Protection Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiation Protection Specialist to join our team at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Radiation Protection Section, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of patients, visitors, and staff who come into contact with ionising radiation and lasers.
As a Clinical Scientist and Medical Physics Expert, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive radiation protection, diagnostic radiology physics, and X-ray services. You will also be involved in patient and staff dosimetry audits, QA instrument calibration services, and staff training.
Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in radiation protection and medical physics, with a good understanding of relevant legislation and approved codes. You will be a team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive radiation protection services to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
- Develop and implement radiation protection policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and approved codes.
- Conduct patient and staff dosimetry audits to ensure accurate radiation exposure levels.
- Provide QA instrument calibration services to ensure accurate radiation measurements.
- Develop and deliver staff training programs to ensure staff are aware of radiation protection procedures and protocols.
- Good (1st or 2nd class) Honours degree in a relevant subject.
- MSc and PhD in radiation protection, medical physics (or equivalent).
- IPEM Certificate of completion of Post-qualification Higher Training or equivalent (e.g. Corporate Membership of IPEM).
- State registration as a Clinical Scientist.
- Accreditation as Medical Physics Expert with RPA2000.
- RPA 2000 accreditation as a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA).
