About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Facilities team as a Domestic Support Worker Higher Level. This role is a key part of our efforts to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust.

Main Responsibilities

  • To maintain a high standard of cleanliness in clinical areas, public areas, and external areas, using recognized cleaning methods and equipment.
  • To identify areas that require cleaning, plan, and organize a cleaning program with relevant ward or departmental staff, ensuring patient, staff, and visitor safety is not compromised.
  • To operate cleaning equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, ensuring it is in good working order and reporting any faults to the supervisor.
  • To undertake deep cleans and isolation cleans, following national and local guidelines.
  • To carry out spot cleaning to ensure spillages and incidents are dealt with swiftly and efficiently, supported by clinical staff as appropriate.
  • To adhere to all relevant COSHH assessments and Safety Data Sheets when preparing, using, and disposing of cleaning chemicals.

About Us

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust operates from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, and Westmorland General Hospital. We also have a number of community healthcare premises, including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

We provide a range of general hospital services, including emergency departments, critical/coronary care units, and various consultant-led services. Our hospitals also offer a range of planned care, including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day-case, and inpatient surgery. In addition, we provide local outreach services and diagnostics from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Requirements

  • Evidence of good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Possession of, or willingness to work towards, a BIC's qualification or equivalent NVQ Level 2.
  • Previous cleaning experience.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team without direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of cleaning in a healthcare environment and the potential for cross-contamination.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, plan your own workload, and understand written and spoken instructions.
  • Ability to use heavy equipment and handle hazardous cleaning chemicals.
  • Knowledge of infection control in the cleaning environment.
