About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Domestic Support Worker to join our team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust. As a key member of our Facilities department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and safety of our hospitals and community healthcare premises.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness in clinical areas, public areas, and external areas using recognized cleaning methods.
- Identify areas to be cleaned, plan, and organize a cleaning program with relevant ward or departmental staff, ensuring patient, staff, and visitor safety is not compromised.
- Operate cleaning equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, ensuring it is in good working order and reporting faults immediately to the supervisor.
- Undertake deep cleans and isolation cleans following national and local guidelines.
- Carry out spot cleaning to ensure spillages and incidents are dealt with swiftly and efficiently, supported by clinical staff as appropriate.
- Adhere to all relevant COSHH assessments and Safety Data Sheets when preparing, using, and disposing of cleaning chemicals.

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary, and Westmorland General Hospital, as well as community healthcare premises. Our hospitals provide a range of general hospital services, including emergency departments, critical care units, and consultant-led services. We also offer a range of local outreach services and diagnostics from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Person Specification
- Evidence of good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Possess or be willing to work towards a BIC's Qualification or equivalent NVQ Level 2.
- Previous cleaning experience.
- Ability to work on your own or in a team without direct supervision.
