The Role: Head of Facilities Services and Civic Management
This strategic role will shape the council's services for various functions, such as facilities operations, business development, civic facilities, community hubs, and libraries. You will manage relationships with schools and governors regarding facility services provision.
Your responsibilities will encompass traded services like caretaking, cleaning, school meals, and welfare catering, with significant income targets. You must balance commercial acumen with political priorities.
Within civic facilities, you will oversee building management and hospitality, including statutory registration services and partnership work with the Home Office. As a 'Proper Officer' for Registration Services, you will hold this critical position.
You will also be responsible for bereavement and registration services, ensuring compliance with laws. In libraries, you will implement national policies, provide citizenship services, and lead corporate complaints.
Your team will include operational, back-office, and specialized officers, many working part-time or in hybrid models. New services within your division include the Newcastle Furniture Service and Palatine beds.
Cross-council responsibilities will involve supporting the Director in providing strategic leadership, vision, and direction aligned with Cabinet priorities. This includes innovating service delivery methods, improving business and financial performance.
What We Are Looking For
An experienced professional with expertise in customer-focused or operational services within a commercial environment. Proven leadership and accountability for service performance and operational standards.
Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, dependent on experience. This salary reflects the importance of this role in shaping the council's services and driving commercial growth while balancing political priorities.
