About the Team
The Allegations Management team operates within the Quality Assurance and Reviewing Service, alongside Child Protection Conferencing and Independent Reviewing Services. The team consists of 2.5 Child Protection Allegations Officers and 2.5 administrative support staff. The office base is located at Shire Hall.
About You
As an independent officer, the Child Protection Allegations Officer will provide professional consultation and guidance, facilitate and coordinate complex meetings, and oversee the management of allegations against individuals working with children in both paid and voluntary capacities. This is a specialized role essential for ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. The post holder will advocate for excellent practices and outcomes, as well as consistent intervention thresholds across services.
The responsibilities of this role include ensuring safe and effective decisions are made for children. You will manage allegations against adults working with children fairly and effectively, which encompasses safeguarding activities across various agencies, including schools, voluntary organizations, clubs, and independent entities. The role may also involve providing training and raising awareness regarding child safety in professional or voluntary organizations throughout Gloucestershire.
A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification social work experience in safeguarding children and young people is required. Previous experience in a management-level role (or equivalent, e.g., Child Protection Chair or Independent Reviewing Officer) within children's social care. Proven experience in multi-agency collaboration and partnership working. Ability to operate effectively in sensitive environments, challenge assertively while maintaining professional integrity, and deliver difficult messages with tact. Proficient IT skills, particularly in Word, Excel, and databases. Strong written communication skills to document information as investigations progress, including Freedom of Information requests and necessary court documentation. Comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding legislation and guidance, as well as employment and criminal law. In-depth understanding of child development, attachment, significant harm, and intervention thresholds. Qualified Social Worker with a recognized professional qualification (e.g., BA Social Work, MA Social Work, DipSW). Current registration with Social Work England.How to Apply
