We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. As a Consultant Psychiatrist in Early Intervention, you will play a key role in providing high-quality medical care to clients aged 18-65 in the Hastings team of the East Sussex Early Intervention in Psychosis Service.
Key Responsibilities- Provide consultant psychiatric and medical care to clients aged 18-65 in the Hastings team of the East Sussex Early Intervention in Psychosis Service.
- Develop and implement evidence-based interventions to service users with first episode psychosis and comorbid conditions, with a focus on regular reviews and Care Programme Approach (CPA).
- Support early intervention practitioners in the production of comprehensive care planning, including relapse prevention and crisis management.
- Lead the development of local evidence-based interventions for this caseload, in consultation with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Optimize the physical health of clients with first episode psychosis.
- Provide psychopharmacological advice to other professionals and GPs, consistent with guidelines developed within the wider service.
- Liaise with Primary Care and other stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Encourage and facilitate family/carer involvement in the delivery of packages of care.
- Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to develop innovative ways of engaging with service users.
- Liaise with statutory and non-statutory agencies to assist in the management of early intervention clients.
- Offer training to professional and non-statutory audiences as appropriate.
- Participate in the planning and development of Early Intervention Services across Sussex.
- Contribute to improving the standards of mental health care within Sussex.
- Undertake responsibilities of Approved Clinician status under the Mental Health Act.
- Liaise closely with other functional teams within the locality to ensure provision of consistent and appropriate services.
- Manage the input of other medical staff and establish and monitor standards, including recording of clinical interventions, case summaries, and discharge summaries.
- Ensure that medical staff in the team have appropriate clinical supervision and training on a regular basis.
- Encourage and participate in team developments and training, and provide appropriate clinical leadership.
- Work closely with the team and other managers in the Trust.
- Participate in the Trust Clinical Governance Programme and contribute to Clinical Audit within the Trust.
- Be a core member of the Early Intervention in Psychosis Local Leadership Team, where clinical governance, service development, and finance are managed.
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
- MRCPsych.
- Additional clinical qualifications.
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
- Excellent knowledge in specialty.
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.
- Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
- Ability to work in and lead team.
- Participated in research or service evaluation.
- Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.
