About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Youth Support Worker to join our team at Polaris Community, providing care and support for young males aged 13-18 years.

Job Summary:

  • To create a safe and supportive environment that promotes the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of young people in residential care.
  • To plan and deliver activities tailored to individual needs, fostering learning, integration, and personal growth.
  • To maintain awareness of relevant legislation, guidelines, and policies to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • To monitor and record progress, achievements, behaviour, and life events, collaborating with local authorities and parents/carers to provide exceptional care and support.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement daily routines and schedules to promote structure and stability.
  2. Create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, encouraging open communication and building positive relationships with young people, staff, and external agencies.
  3. Plan and participate in outings, excursions, and leisure activities that promote social skills, independence, and community involvement.
  4. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and deliver person-centred plans, ensuring the unique needs and goals of each young person are met.
  5. Administer medication and first aid as required, maintaining accurate records and adhering to established protocols.
  6. Be flexible with working hours, including shifts, evenings, and weekends, to meet the needs of the service and its residents.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience working with teenagers or challenging behaviour, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Hold a valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle, due to rural locations.
  • Hold a Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
