University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Consultant Hepatologist to join our dynamic department as part of service expansion.

The successful appointee will join the existing 16 substantive Gastroenterology Consultants in delivery of high quality inpatient and outpatient provision of Gastroenterology and Hepatology services to this large Trust. The successful candidates will be expected to have established foundation in gastroenterology and endoscopy, and to share their expertise in supporting and developing a forward thinking service.

Main duties of the job

The Gastroenterology ward moved to Ward 32 in March 2020, to enable expansion and accommodate future provision for a dedicated 10-bedded intestinal failure unit. There are 32 inpatient beds alongside 2 dedicated side-rooms for day-case admission for ambulatory care and assessment.

Key responsibilities

The post-holder will participate in the Gastroenterology Consultant on call (including out of hours GI bleed on call), and support delivery of weekend endoscopy lists as necessary. There is no general medical on call commitment.

Our facilities

The state of the art JAG approved endoscopy suite at UHCW comprises 8 endoscopy rooms (5 at UH, and 3 at Rugby St Cross), a seminar room (with video links to 2 endoscopy rooms) and a video processor system for ERCP in the X-ray department. There is an established small bowel capsule endoscopy service and single balloon enteroscopy service, and a newly developed colon capsule service. The department also undertakes endoscopic ultrasound (radial and linear).
