Nutrition Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Nutrition Nurse to join our team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. The successful candidate will provide expert care to patients requiring nutritional support, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
Main Responsibilities- Provide guidance, advice, and support to patients and families on nutrition and enteral feeding.
- Deliver individualized nursing care related to nutrition and enteral feeding tubes, based on best practice principles.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' clinical needs, working in multidisciplinary teams within the community.
- Liaise with acute unit Nutrition Nurses, Hospital and Community Dietitians, GPs, District Nurses, Intermediate Care staff, Nursing Homes, and home enteral feeding companies to facilitate smooth patient discharge.
- Prevent hospital admission of patients with enteral feeding tubes by responding urgently to their needs.
- Work with the team to prioritize workload, ensuring urgent work is addressed between routine patients.
- Assist in educating and evaluating the clinical competence of junior staff, providing support and guidance.
Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust is an integrated care organization with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff. Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, opens in 2024, providing care to our local population from state-of-the-art premises.
The Nutrition Nurse service is working towards a 7-day working rota to support alignment with future trust/service requirements, including some weekend and bank holiday working.
Person Specification- Degree level or evidence of working towards.
- Teaching or assessing qualification - SLAIP.
- Leadership course (In-house would be acceptable).
- Evidence of structured self-study or professional development in a nutrition-related subject.
- Post-registration experience of caring for patients receiving nutritional support via varied enteral feeding tubes.
- Experience working with patients with a range of medical conditions.
- Able to demonstrate commitment to high-quality patient care.
- Evidence of practical experience in caring for patients receiving artificial nutritional support.
