We are seeking an experienced Senior Planning Engineer to join our dynamic planning team, working out of our Newcastle office, and covering projects throughout the North East. This is a pivotal opportunity for a driven professional to play a crucial role in the success and delivery of various projects across the region.

Your Mission

As a Senior Planning Engineer, you will report to the Planning Manager and be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining detailed programmes in P6 and MSP from first principles, including resource and cost loading.
  • Integrating and managing sub-contractor and supplier programmes with our own.
  • Interpreting information from tender and project documentation.
  • Understanding civil construction techniques and developing them into working programmes.
  • Coordinating with estimators and commercial teams on all programme aspects.
  • Compiling concise narratives, phasing reports, and supporting documents for input into quality submissions for tenders and projects.
  • Taking ownership of the programme to drive project delivery.
  • Utilising planning techniques and tools to communicate the programme effectively.
  • Contributing programme information, risk, and commercial issues to operational teams in various formats.
  • Chairing collaborative planning workshops with clients, operational teams, and subcontractors (depending on project requirements).
  • Updating and monitoring project progress, compiling reports against project and contract requirements.
  • Introducing and analysing change in programmes, supporting commercial teams.
  • Evaluating supply chain and subcontract programmes.
  • Complying with business processes and systems.
  • Maintaining awareness of latest construction techniques.
Who Are We Looking For?
  • Prior experience of delivering programmes under the NEC form of contract is desirable.
  • Strong commercial and contractual acumen with a track record of change management within NEC contracts.
  • A minimum of 5 years' planning experience, requiring the ability to manage workload and support Planning Engineers within the region.
  • A qualification in Civil Engineering/Construction to HND level or equivalent is preferred but not essential.
  • Competence in using various planning software.
  • Demonstrable ability to develop, own, and drive programmes.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with all parties.
  • Comfortable in presenting and client-facing situations.
  • Experience of working closely with site construction teams and understanding of each 'customer's' programme requirements.
  • A clear ability for logical thinking and working in an ordered fashion.
  • The ability to work to often challenging timescales.
  • Experience in producing summary construction or project control information in Excel and Power BI would be advantageous.
  • Tender experience and the ability to develop programmes from first principles.
  • Experience of QSRA's is preferred but not essential.
