We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven professional to lead our Industrial Biomass operations in the North region. As the Head of Industrial Biomass Operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of our Industrial Biomass sites, driving business growth, and delivering exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure overall plant performance, including availability, energy output, and boiler efficiency.
  • Project Management: Oversee upgrade projects with effective document control and change management.
  • Team Leadership: Manage the on-site maintenance team and sub-contractors for operations, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Financial Management: Manage the operation and maintenance budget, including labour, parts, and sub-contractor expenses.
  • Inventory Management: Manage spares stock to minimize downtime while maintaining financial control.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with maintenance regulations for LTHW, steam, electrical generation, and high-voltage equipment.
  • Planned Maintenance: Coordinate planned maintenance, repairs, and reactive works to ensure continuous energy supply.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) schemes, environmental permits, and industry standards.
  • Client Relationships: Maintain strong relationships and communication with clients and their engineering teams.
  • Health and Safety: Promote a strong Health and Safety culture and conduct regular safety audits.
  • Biomass Fuel Supply: Oversee biomass fuel supply and ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of fuel supply, maintenance, testing, and safety incidents.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate on operation and maintenance strategies for new industrial low-carbon heat projects.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with the Head of Industrial Biomass South for mutual cover and escalation for the respective areas.
  • Resource Optimization: Collaborate with colleagues across the Group to optimize resource and drive company performance.
Requirements
  • Technical Qualification: Technical qualification such as Mechanical or Electrical engineering and Health and safety training or qualification such as NEBOSH or IOSH.
  • Kaizen Training: Kaizen training or qualification desirable but not essential.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of all compliance requirements, regulations, and best practice relating to the management of large MTWH, HTHW, steam-based industrial heating systems, and CHP plant.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth technical knowledge of hot water and steam plant, including mechanical and electrical engineering and SCADA control systems.
  • Leadership Experience: Previous experience of effectively managing an engineering team across multiple locations.
  • Health and Safety Management: Demonstratable experience of effective Health and Safety management on site, encouraging a strong Health and Safety culture and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • On-Call Experience: Familiarity with on-call working to ensure the on-site team responds to heating outages, loss of service, or emergencies as required.
  • Budgetary Control: Previous experience with budgetary control and financial reporting.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical skills to effectively analyze data and trends and interpret information.
  • Troubleshooting: Able to effectively troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Decision Making: Strong decision maker, to be able to assess a situation, problem solve, and confidently come up with the best course of action possible.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills.
  • Customer Focus: Takes ownership and follows through to ensure the delivery of solutions and services that fulfill the customers' needs.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
