About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Publisher to join our Journals Editorial team at Oxford University Press. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and developing a portfolio of society journals in the social sciences and humanities to a high level of excellence.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Negotiating successful contractual terms with society partners that align with OUP's strategic priorities and risk appetite.
  • Ensuring adherence to contractual terms for all journals in your portfolio.
  • Working collaboratively with other functional groups to deliver an excellent service for society partners.
  • Managing a list of journals to ensure targets are achieved, including revenue, quality, and profitability.
  • Working with finance and operations colleagues to ensure maximum long- and short-term profitability of the journal list.
  • Leading the transition process for newly acquired titles, ensuring a methodological approach and collaborating with other departments.
  • Advocating for best practices through engagement with Society and Editorial teams.
  • Creating and presenting Editorial Development plans to societies and editorial boards.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office. This is a non-negotiable requirement.

About You

We are looking for a solutions-driven individual with the ability to work autonomously while balancing multiple priorities. You should have a strong understanding of the changing dynamics of the journals' publishing landscape, including open access, and experience managing a portfolio of journals.

Key skills and qualifications include:

  • Publishing or transferable professional experience.
  • Understanding of academic publishing, including editorial processes, production processes, marketing, industry trends, systems, competitors, and technology.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to influence, persuade, and negotiate with both internal and external parties.
  • Analytical and forecasting ability to review trends and align development appropriately.
