Nuclear Criticality Safety Specialist Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Physics Expert to join our team as a Criticality Safety Assessor. This role involves providing criticality safety assessments for nuclear facilities, applying nuclear physics knowledge and using Monte Carlo computer codes. The successful candidate will have a strong technical understanding of nuclear physics and experience in writing safety assessments.

The ideal candidate will have an Honours Degree in science, mathematics, engineering or a closely related discipline, with examples of communicating technical problems clearly and concisely to stakeholders. Desirable skills include knowledge of particle transport codes, Monte Carlo methods, and the requirements placed upon fissile operations within a highly regulated industry on a nuclear licensed site.

This role offers a competitive salary of £38,000 - £46,000, plus role-related allowance(s), depending on suitability, qualifications, and level of experience. Key Responsibilities

As a Criticality Safety Assessor, your key responsibilities will be to:
  • Deliver criticality safety assessments to facilities in line with programme demand and internal company procedures.
  • Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality, as well as professional conduct in-line with core behaviours.
  • Engage and collaborate with stakeholders from technology centres, operations, project management, engineers, and conventional safety case teams.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Honours Degree (or equivalent) in science, mathematics, engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Examples of being able to communicate technical problems clearly and concisely to stakeholders with technical/non-technical backgrounds.
