Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team at Imperial College London. As a Research Associate in Sustainable Catalysis, you will play a key role in developing and understanding new types of catalysts for reactions that transfer fluorine atoms or small fluorine containing groups.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic team of researchers that span synthetic chemistry and computational modelling. You will work closely with our team to develop new sustainable approaches to re-use fluorine containing molecules such as refrigerant HFCs and HFOs and fluorinated polymers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake original research in the field of sustainable catalysis
  • Mentor more junior lab members and contribute to manuscripts and research proposals
  • Support and develop a safe, friendly, and supportive research environment

Requirements

  • Hold, or be near completion of, a PhD in Chemistry or a closely related discipline
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication in international scientific journals
  • Experience with synthetic chemistry, including organic methodology
  • Experience with a range of analytical methods such as multinuclear NMR, infrared and UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry and mass spectrometry
  • Desirable experience using computational methods (DFT) and physical chemistry (kinetics) to carry out mechanistic analysis of chemical reactions
