Job Title: Clinical Trials Pharmacist

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Clinical Trials Pharmacist to join our team at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Pharmacy team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective handling of clinical trial medications.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and providing the Pharmacy Clinical Trial Service for the Freeman Hospital and its elements, ensuring compliance with the EU Clinical Trials Directive and Trust Research Governance Policies. You will also be responsible for organizing and developing clinical pharmacy services in cancer services, incorporating advanced therapies both within the clinical trial and standard of care setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and provide the Pharmacy Clinical Trial Service for the Freeman Hospital and its elements, ensuring compliance with the EU Clinical Trials Directive and Trust Research Governance Policies.
  • Organize and develop clinical pharmacy services in cancer services, incorporating advanced therapies both within the clinical trial and standard of care setting.
  • Audit compliance with the Medicines Management Committee, Formulary, and Hospital Trust recommendations across identified areas within the Trust.
  • Participate in Trust-wide meetings regarding the management and organization of the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Service within the Trust.
  • Participate in HRA pharmacy technical reviews where appropriate.
  • Perform the professional role of a Registered Pharmacist, including advice, supervision, and cooperation with colleagues, particularly in relation to support/cover for absent colleagues.
Requirements:
  • Registered Pharmacist with a MPharm degree and postgraduate pre-registration training.
  • Clinical Diploma (or equivalent higher qualification).
  • Independent Prescriber qualification or commitment to enter into the next intake for obtaining the qualification.
Desirable:
  • Management training course.
  • Clinical Masters.
Knowledge and Experience:
  • Extensive post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy, some at a senior level.
  • Demonstrate a developing clinical role.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Understanding of Clinical Trials legislation.
  • Understanding of National Clinical Trials policy and practice.
  • Knowledge of clinical research and its role in pharmacy and medicine.
  • Well-developed clinical pharmacy knowledge across all aspects of drug use.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of CT procedures.
  • Demonstrable awareness of developments in Hospital Pharmacy.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate, oral and written, specialist clinical information.
  • One-to-one communication.
  • Influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
