Highways Inspector Team Lead

As a Highways Inspector Team Lead at National Highways, you will be responsible for managing a team of Highway Inspectors to ensure the delivery of a high-quality service that meets the requirements of National Highways special defence under Section 58 of the Highways Act.

The successful candidate will provide management and direction to the team, ensuring timely setting of objectives, performance management reviews, and development of appropriate succession and development plans.

You will also be responsible for managing the utilisation and allocation of team resources, ensuring appropriate resourcing levels for all activities in scope, including managing duty responsibilities for highway asset advice at incidents.

Additionally, you will facilitate positive and collaborative ways of working with internal and external stakeholders, such as Traffic Officers, Network Planners, and 3rd party supply chain, to share knowledge, plan, and maximise the use of network occupancy and available traffic management.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be registered on the Institute of Highways Engineers Register of Highway Inspectors, have completed the LANTRA training and assessment for Highway Safety Inspection, and/or hold a Highways Inspector City and Guilds qualification or equivalent.

You will also need to have extensive experience in Highways Inspection, knowledge of New Roads and Street Works Act, and experience in data collection and use of data capture devices.

As a key member of the Operations team, you will contribute to joint performance reviews with 3rd party Service Providers and internal colleagues to understand performance trends, identify risks, root causes for performance issues, and develop remedial action plans.

Finally, you will be available for on-duty responsibilities, attending incident sites and providing advice, and deciding on immediate interventions required to address defects and safety concerns.
