About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Housing Officer to join our team at South Gloucestershire Council. As a key member of our housing team, you will play a vital role in procuring and managing private sector lets for homelessness prevention, and delivering our statutory duty to provide emergency and temporary accommodation.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide expert advice and guidance to landlords and tenants on housing-related matters, resolving queries and complaints in a timely and effective manner.
  2. Support tenants to ensure their homes are safe and secure, working closely with local agencies and other relevant services to address any health and safety concerns.
  3. Manage a portfolio of approximately thirty properties, conducting regular inspections, arranging repairs, and providing advice and guidance to customers on maintaining their property and their rights as tenants.
  4. Oversee the collection of rent and ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately and efficiently.
  5. Assess applicants and determine their eligibility for housing, ensuring that all decisions are made in accordance with our rehousing policies.
  6. Maintain and build relationships with landlords, ensuring that they are aware of our services and how they can support our efforts to prevent homelessness.

Requirements

  1. You will have a deep understanding of the needs of vulnerable people and minority groups, and be able to tackle inequality and social exclusion effectively.
  2. You must be able to manage competing priorities and make sound judgements to deliver the best possible outcomes for our service.
  3. You should have a strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 Part VII, landlord and tenant law, and civil procedures.
  4. You will need excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with landlords, tenants, and other stakeholders.
