Job Summary

We are seeking highly motivated and experienced Senior Anaesthetists to join our team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. As a key member of our Anaesthetic Department, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our clinical services.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, effective, and efficient anaesthetic services, ensuring the proper functioning of the Anaesthetic Department.
  • Participate in the anaesthetic consultant on-call rota, working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Be prepared to work across multiple sites, with on-call duties undertaken at one of the two sites.
  • Assist in the provision of Critical Care services, working closely with the Critical Care Team.
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage Anaesthetic trainees, providing professional guidance and support to ensure their development and success.
  • Contribute to the training and education of undergraduate students, post-graduate medical staff, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring they meet GMC standards.
  • Organize and participate in teaching sessions, sharing expertise and knowledge to enhance the skills of colleagues and students.
Clinical Governance and Audit
  • Participate fully in Clinical Governance, reporting incidents, investigating serious incidents, and handling complaints effectively.
  • Contribute to the Clinical Audit programme, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to enhance patient care.
  • Comply with Trust policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to Clinical Governance processes.
Continuing Professional Development
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, staying up-to-date with local and national best practices.
  • Implement audit and research findings in clinical practice, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Prepare for and participate in annual appraisals, meeting revalidation requirements.
Person SpecificationQualifications
  • Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent.
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent.
  • Full and Specialist registration for Anaesthesia, with the General Medical Council (GMC) or eligibility for registration within six months of interview.
Clinical Skills and Experience
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Anaesthesia (or equivalent).
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of adult, maternity, and paediatric patients.
Teaching Experience
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, medical, and allied health professionals.
  • Ability to teach clinical skills to anaesthetic trainees of all levels, achieving GMC standards as a clinical supervisor.
Clinical Governance and Audit
  • Understanding of Clinical Audit principles.
  • Evidence of participation in audit projects relevant to subspecialty interest.
Management and Administrative Experience
  • Understanding of NHS management structure.
IT Skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft office packages, MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to use patient information systems.
Other Attributes
  • Effective communicator - verbal and written.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates leadership and organisational skills.
