Job Description

Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a skilled Immunisation Nurse to join their School Age Vaccination Service (SAV) team in Lewisham. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in supporting the safe delivery and triage of nasal flu and other vaccination programs.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assess young people and understand the pre-requisites for administering immunisations, including understanding contraindications, aftercare, and relevant advice to provide to the young person.
  • Contribute to the identification and protection of children at risk of abuse, adhering to local Safeguarding Children's Board guidelines.
  • Ensure up-to-date completion of statutory and mandatory training, including CPR, Anaphylaxis, and Immunisation training.
  • Maintain effective communication and liaison with nursing disciplines and allied professions.
  • Provide support, mentorship, guidance, and supervision to junior and non-qualified staff members of the School Nursing service.
  • Maintain personal safety and that of others by taking reasonable care, adhering to the law, and following recognized codes of practice, as well as complying with Trust policies on Health and Safety.
Key Accountabilities
  • Administer vaccines according to the national immunisation schedule.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of immunisations given.
  • Provide education and information to patients and families about immunisation, including potential side effects and the importance of vaccines.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions following immunisation.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as doctors, pharmacists, and social workers.
  • Participate in public health initiatives and campaigns to promote immunisation.
  • Experience in immunisation and vaccination is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current immunisation schedules, vaccines, and contraindications to vaccination.

  • The role may involve travel to different locations to provide immunisation clinics in schools, community centres, and other settings.
