Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist Associate to join our team at the Department of Work & Pensions. As a Data Scientist Associate, you will play a key role in developing innovative data-driven solutions to complex problems.

About the Role

As a Data Scientist Associate, you will be responsible for:

  • Applying your skills and experience in data science to projects that affect millions of UK citizens.
  • Working within a high-performing team of data scientists to identify, analyze, and create solutions for complex problems.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary development teams to design and deliver new features for the Universal Credit digital service.
  • Using advanced analytics techniques, such as machine learning, network analytics, and natural language processing, to drive business outcomes.
  • Developing and maintaining essential digital services, ensuring they are supported by data and meet the needs of UC claimants and DWP staff.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong academic background in Data Science, Maths, Statistics, or Computer Science, or equivalent Data Science-related experience.
  • Hands-on experience using data science to solve problems or improve established processes.
  • Stakeholder management skills and experience working with colleagues to understand their requirements and deliver complex analytical projects in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate results to a range of audiences, translating technical concepts into non-technical language where necessary.
  • Understanding of a range of data science techniques and the ability to apply these to practical situations.
  • Ability to explore, combine, and transform data from across disparate sources.
  • Experience writing code in R, Python, or SQL.
