Job Overview

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled Perinatal Mental Health Specialist to join our team at the Slade Site in Oxford. As a Perinatal Clinician, you will be responsible for undertaking mental health assessments, managing a caseload of service users, and providing practical advice and support, including family work, psychological interventions, and safeguarding issues within adult and child protection.

You will also be liaising with other services working with our service users during the perinatal period. This is a great opportunity for mental health nurses looking to gain the skills and knowledge as a Perinatal Clinician and work towards a Band 6 role.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Responsible for the clinical triage of service users who access Mental Health Services during pregnancy and in the first-year post-partum and signposting on to the most appropriate service.
  • Conducting social and health assessments involving assessment of risk within the support framework of the perinatal mental health team.
  • Ensure that each assessment is conducted collaboratively in consultation/agreement with the service user and their carer, where available, and the assessment will be informed by the wider multidisciplinary team involved with the birth parent.
  • Give relevant advice and guidance to service users and callers, including signposting out of services, transferring to IAPT, and close liaison with GPs and other agencies.
  • Provide interventions in the community as part of the perinatal service where this is the pathway of choice.
  • Provide advice or guidance in respect of criteria for admission to MBU.

  • Good understanding and experience of using NHS systems IT platforms in your role
  • Community Mental Experience - this can be whilst undertaking professional qualification.

Desirable Criteria

  • Perinatal Mental Health Experience
  • Community Experience in placements
