Health, Safety and Environmental Leader

Alexander Dennis is seeking a seasoned Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to join its Scarborough team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the charge in shaping a proactive health and safety culture, ensuring legal compliance, and updating key policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Health and Safety Strategy: Develop and implement a strategy that allows Alexander Dennis to meet legal obligations, while driving forward a positive and proactive culture that improves all aspects of health, safety, and environment.
- Policies and Procedures: Review and update existing policies and standard operating procedures in line with best practice, as well as developing new ones to meet business and statutory requirements. This includes auditing such activities.
- Team Support: Provide guidance and support to colleagues at all levels with all health, safety, and environmental matters, coaching and developing them to take more responsibility for this in the future.
- Management Information: Develop value-added management information and reporting, leading the way on key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive behavior and performance.
- Expert Advice: Provide expert advice on capital and operational expenditure plans to ensure the long-term health, safety, and environmental needs of the business are addressed.
- Improvement Proposals: Develop and propose improvements to policies, programs, and procedures to improve the effectiveness of EHS operations.
- Leadership: Lead the H&S function across operations and other areas as directed, ensuring standards are met with consistent execution and implementation to ensure regulatory legal compliance.
- Performance Indicators: Set clear key performance indicators to measure success within this area.
- Emergency Response: Oversee the execution of emergency/hazard response activities and all Health and Safety investigations to ensure appropriate internal and external reporting, root cause and corrective action are implemented and followed-up to completion.
- Liability Management: Oversee the execution of employer's liability (and similar) compensation claims management programs.
- Compliance and Governance: Provide guidance and advice on current and future initiatives ensuring compliance with applicable Health and Safety acts and regulations.
- Training and Certification: Identify and develop Health and Safety training and required certification.
- Occupational Exposures: Monitor and assess occupational exposures from various processes.
- Waste Management: Maintain waste management systems, monitoring and reporting requirements of air emissions, industrial and hazardous waste disposal, storage tanks, storm water permitting, sewer permitting, chemical purchase/storage, and water discharge programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Data Analysis: Produce accurate statistical data, reports, and analysis of Health and Safety conditions in support of reduction goals.
- Global Strategy: Support the Group Safety Lead with integration and coordination of global HR safety and environmental strategy.
Requirements:
- Experience: Previous experience in a similar role.
- Industry: Ideally gained in the Automotive industry, however, experience from other complex engineering/manufacturing environments is also welcome.
- Qualifications: Familiar with the set up and on-going maintenance of Health, Safety and Environmental management systems. Hold appropriate professional qualifications and certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, IMEA, and various ISO accreditations.
- Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, direct, and indirect teams, as well as taking a hands-on approach to all areas of accountability.
- Analysis and Problem-Solving: Strong analysis and problem-solving skills, being adept at communicating with and coaching others to take responsibility for health, safety, and environmental activities in their areas.
