Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time
Project Overview

The University of Cambridge is seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our research team in the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. The successful candidate will work on a project entitled "Modelling new therapeutic approaches for neoadjuvant treatment of high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma" under the supervision of Professor James Brenton.

Research Objectives

The aim of the project is to develop new therapeutic approaches for neoadjuvant treatment of BRCA1 mutated high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma. This project will focus on modifiers of chemotherapy-induced senescence and combination therapy with new drugs targeting DNA damage response. The experimental approach will combine cell fate analysis using in vitro and in vivo lineage tracing using existing patient-derived organoid and CRISPR-engineered models that can evaluate coincident immunological responses.

Methodology

The project will employ a combination of computational and experimental approaches, including whole-genome sequencing, single-cell technologies, and imaging mass cytometry. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop innovative skills in both computational and experimental approaches and work closely with two postdoctoral workers focusing on mouse models and one computational postdoctoral worker with extensive whole-genome sequencing experience.

Requirements

We welcome applications from recent graduates or final-year undergraduates who hold or expect to gain a First/Upper Second Class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject from any recognised university worldwide. The successful candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology, genomics, or a related field and excellent critical thinking, organisation, team player, and emotional intelligence skills.

Funding

This four-year studentship is funded by Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute and includes full funding for University fees and a stipend of £21,000 per annum for four years.

Eligibility

We welcome applications from both UK and overseas students. The University actively supports equality, diversity, and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.
