SUMMARY

As a key member of the Warehouse team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of a designated section within the warehouse. This includes supporting the Management Team with day-to-day operations, supervising a team of operators, and coordinating their workloads to achieve business targets. You will also be responsible for monitoring issues, ensuring production targets, KPIs, and quality standards are met to meet customer requirements. Additionally, you will be expected to develop the team by focusing on individual performance and support requirements to achieve high standards, while fostering a culture of working safely.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the operation of the warehouse section to ensure efficient storage and distribution of goods.
  • Supervise and train new operatives within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure accurate inventory levels and record stock movements.
  • Support organizing and participating in regular stock takes.
  • Verify the accuracy of computerized and automated systems.
  • Identify opportunities for system improvements and make recommendations.
  • Resolve issues and problems that occur in the warehouse.
  • Produce regular reports and statistics as required.
  • Assist in planning future capacity requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure manual handling procedures are followed.
  • Verify the maintenance of vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
  • Maintain high standards of security in the warehouse.
  • Ensure a clean and tidy working environment.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • Manage time and attendance for operatives within the area of responsibility.
  • Communicate priorities, targets, and operational requirements to staff.
  • Report progress updates, key achievements, and concerns to supervisors and managers.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, and transport companies as required.
  • Comply with health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Proactively contribute to team development and foster a collaborative work environment.

EXPERIENCE

  • Team leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good IT skills, particularly in spreadsheets and databases.
  • Analytical and numerical skills.
  • Good understanding of customer deliverables and the impact of failure or poor quality.
  • Good planning skills with the ability to meet targets and deadlines.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • GCSEs Level A-C or NVQ Level 2.
  • An appropriate warehousing qualification would be advantageous.
  • Certified in: Dangerous Goods Handling.
  • A supervisory qualification would be beneficial.
  • Proven experience as a Warehouse Team Leader with experience of supervising and motivating a team.
  • A good working knowledge of health and safety and security requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of lean techniques may be advantageous.
  • Fork Lift Truck license may be required.
