PhD Researcher in Sustainable Composites Manufacturing

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at the University of Nottingham's Composites Research Group. The successful candidate will work on a project focused on characterising and predicting the effect of manufacturing defects on structural performance of composite structures.
Project Overview:
The project aims to develop mitigation strategies to avoid over-conservative design and reduce the number of parts rejected due to defects. The researcher will conduct an extensive experimental programme, supported by analytical or numerical modelling, to characterise the defects and their impact on structural performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on characterising and predicting manufacturing defects in composite structures
- Develop mitigation strategies to avoid over-conservative design
- Conduct experimental and analytical work to support the research
- Collaborate with the research team to achieve project goals
Requirements:
We are looking for a highly motivated and talented individual with a strong background in engineering or physical science. The successful candidate will hold a minimum 2:1 masters degree or a first-class undergraduate degree in a relevant field. Previous knowledge of composites and composites manufacturing is beneficial, as well as experience in finite element analysis.
