We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our research team at the University of Nottingham's Composites Research Group. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project focused on sustainable composites manufacturing, with a strong emphasis on reducing cost, cycle time, and embodied energy.
Project OverviewThe project aims to characterise and predict the effect of manufacturing defects on structural performance in fibre-reinforced composites. This will involve an extensive experimental programme supported by advanced machine learning techniques and statistical tools to develop mitigation strategies.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research on sustainable composites manufacturing, with a focus on reducing defects and improving structural performance.
- Develop and implement advanced machine learning techniques to predict the effect of defects on structural performance.
- Collaborate with the research team to design and conduct experiments, and analyse data.
- Present research findings at conferences and publish papers in reputable journals.
We are looking for a highly motivated and talented individual with a strong background in engineering or physical sciences. The successful candidate will have a minimum 2:1 masters degree, or a first-class undergraduate degree in a relevant field. Previous knowledge of composites and composites manufacturing is beneficial, as is experience in finite element analysis.
