Job Summary

The Ministry of Defence is seeking a highly skilled and experienced maritime professional to join the Army Maritime Inspection and Advisory Team (AMIAT). As a key member of the team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe operation of Army vessels and craft, as well as providing assurance and advice on maritime policy and governance.

Key Responsibilities

As a Civil Service Marine Services Officer Class 2 (MSO 2), you will be responsible for:

  • Delivering Second Party Assurance in the UK and overseas for Army vessel and craft operating procedures, and MOD issued Water Safety Equipment against relevant legislation and regulation.
  • Conducting annual Maritime Functional and Efficiency Inspections on Army vessels and craft to provide assurance to the authority that they are operated safely and operationally effective.
  • Assisting with the authoring and maintenance of Army Maritime policy and other related publications, forms, and documents, to ensure compliance with legislation and regulation.
  • Maintaining a database of Water Safety Equipment inspections, and quantities held.
  • Monitoring all maritime accidents and near misses within the Army Maritime domain, analysing to identify trends and opportunities for Organisational Learning.
  • Developing close working networks and relationships with other MOD small craft operators to improve commonality of training and practices.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A background in workboat or small craft operations, or potentially deck on larger craft.
  • Qualifications and experience rooted in either the STCW framework, recognised workboat certification through the MCA, or the RYA offshore schemes, likely with commercial endorsement.
  • Experience and qualification as a Lead ISO 9001/Maritime Auditor.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
