Senior Network Rail Telecoms Engineer Position in Birmingham

People Group Limited is seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Rail Telecoms Engineer to join their renewals team in Birmingham. This exciting opportunity allows for a part-time arrangement, working one day a week.

The ideal candidate will have a background in Network Rail and experience as a telecoms engineer on client-side projects. A strong understanding of project control procedures, railway group standards, and network rail company standards is essential. Additionally, the successful candidate should possess excellent communication skills, be able to work independently, and have prior experience overseeing subcontractors.

Responsibilities:
  1. Implementing Network Rail Systems: The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing Network Rail systems and procedures to deliver cost-effective, high-quality, and safe approaches to design, construction, commissioning, and other technical activities on relevant projects.
  2. Reviewing Legislation: They will review all relevant legislation and liaise with governmental departments to ensure compliance.
  3. Project Engineering: As a Project Engineer, the individual will monitor the competence of all project engineers working on projects within the functional discipline and provide guidance, direction, and briefing.
  4. Engineering Controls: They will apply engineering controls and procedures to all projects and check whether design and construction contracts include reference to appropriate Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards applicable to their discipline.
  5. Risk Assessment: The successful candidate will apply relevant techniques and procedures of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and HAZOP analysis to all projects and check whether environmental aspects of all projects are managed in accordance with Network Rail Environmental Policy.
  6. Project Monitoring: They will monitor all projects for compliance with Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards and Network Rail project control procedures.
  7. Site Supervision: As a Site Supervisor, the individual will advise project and programme management in respect of all construction activities, testing, and commissioning.
  8. Design and Construction: They will monitor whether the design and construction elements meet the requirements of legislation, including construction design management (CDM) regulations.
  9. Contractor Competence: The successful candidate will assure whether contractors' design, construction, and specialist personnel are competent.
  10. Audit and Review: They will undertake reviews of design and construction activities, arrange audits of contractors, and monitor whether safety and quality of design, construction testing, and commissioning, and management systems are adequate.
  11. Nominated Design and Construction/Design Construction Engineer: The individual will undertake the duties of nominated design and construction/design construction engineer and carry out the duties of designated project engineer (DPE).
