About the Role

The Royal Marsden is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our Health and Safety team, you will provide expert advice, guidance, and support on health and safety matters throughout the organization.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice, guidance, and support to staff at all levels on health and safety matters and arrangements.
  • Lead on the review of non-clinical accidents, incidents, and near-miss events, supporting thorough investigations and identifying appropriate risk mitigation measures.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance by identifying and reporting RIDDOR incidents, guaranteeing proper reporting and escalation.
  • Manage the non-clinical risk assessment program, including generic risk assessments as well as specialist risk assessments such as COSHH, DSE, and Stress risk assessments.
  • Actively participate in the work of the Health, Safety, and Security Committee, contributing to discussions and supporting the committee's initiatives.
  • Assist the Health and Safety Manager with a program of audit and inspection to ensure continuous improvement in health and safety.

Requirements

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety qualification or equivalent.
  • Willingness to further develop expertise by undertaking relevant health and safety qualifications.
  • Experience gained through relevant employment, including experience in undertaking or supporting incident investigations, risk assessments, and ergonomic workstation assessments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to service meetings and report/brief.
  • Strong and effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence and ability to liaise with staff at all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including a high level of accuracy and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to assimilate information quickly and make reasoned judgments under pressure.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work under pressure.
  • Time management skills, including the ability to manage own workload.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as an effective team member.
  • Use of IT packages, including excellent knowledge of Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Flu Vaccination

At The Royal Marsden, we have an immune-compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the utmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
