MPI Limited is seeking a skilled Project Engineer to join our team in Kempston, Bedford. As a Project Engineer, you will play a crucial role in delivering water and wastewater process technology projects from start to finish.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in a mechanical engineering or workshop environment, with a strong ability to interpret fabrication drawings, site GA's, valve & instrument schedules, and standard specifications.

You will be responsible for material take-offs, tendering packages, and visiting sites to assess job requirements. Additionally, you will assist Project Managers in preparing H&S documentation, including Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Construction Phase Plans.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to work independently and solve problems with proficiency.

As a Project Engineer, you will have the opportunity to develop a detailed working knowledge of all standard products and support the commercial manager with forecasting and contract administration.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Material take-offs from fabrication drawings, site GA's, valve & instrument schedules, and standard specifications.
  2. Tendering packages, obtaining quotations, and raising Purchase Orders for items with suppliers as required by Project Managers.
  3. Visiting sites as required to assess job requirements.
  4. Assisting Project Managers in preparation of H&S documentation, including but not limited to Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Construction Phase Plans, Traffic Management Plans, Site H&S files, Permits to Work, HASWA compliance, and CDM compliance.
  5. Ensuring all project records are up to date and available within project files.
  6. Following up the order status for delivering material to the site to support the production schedule, manufacturing lead times, and site activities.
  7. Developing a detailed working knowledge of all standard products.
  8. Supporting the commercial manager with forecasting and contract administration.

Key qualifications and experience required include:

  • At least 2 years' experience in a mechanical engineering or workshop environment.
  • Ability to interpret fabrication drawings, site GA's, valve & instrument schedules, and standard specifications.
  • Strong negotiation skills and a strategic approach in managing national and local suppliers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with team members, clients, and suppliers.
  • Ability to work independently, display initiative, and solve problems with proficiency.

Decision-making authority includes managing own time to achieve objectives, purchasing within agreed limits as directed by Project Managers and the Senior Management Team, undertaking any activities responsibly as instructed by or agreed by Directors, and project management within and adhering to the standards set by the Senior Management Team.

Key skills required include communication, interpersonal skills, negotiation, innovation, customer focus, and the ability to make informed decisions, exercising good judgement and taking ownership of supply chain issues.
