Structural Bioinformatics Specialist

The role of a Structural Bioinformatician at Astex involves applying cutting-edge structural bioinformatics approaches to drive the company's drug discovery process forward. This includes identifying and assessing potential new targets from a structural perspective, developing new in-house structural bioinformatics tools, and integrating data from public domain structural databases and our extensive in-house structure collection with proteomics, genomics, and biological data resources.
Key Responsibilities:- Apply structural bioinformatics techniques for target mining and analysis
- Support ongoing drug discovery projects, including assessment of potential selectivity issues
- Develop tools for mining, visualizing, and integrating three-dimensional protein structural information with multi-omics biological data
- Ph.D. in structural bioinformatics, structural biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related discipline
- Experience analyzing protein structures and sequences
- Proficiency in Python
- Good understanding of standard statistical methods and their usage
- Excellent team working, written, and verbal communication skills
- Experience with machine learning methods is an advantage but not a requirement
