About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Senior Healthcare Support Worker to join our team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW). As a Senior Healthcare Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care to children and young people on our inpatient wards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care, maintaining the privacy and dignity of patients, while working alongside registered nurses to deliver essential nursing care.
  • Assist patients with daily living tasks, including personal care, hygiene, and nutrition.
  • Help patients with mobility needs and provide pressure area care.
  • Offer emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Provide one-to-one observation for patients who present a high risk due to clinical condition.
  • Ensure the ward environment is clean and safe, preventing infection and falls.
  • Take and record patients' vital signs, identifying and escalating changes to a patient's condition to the registered nurse.
  • Train and support new and junior team members, including student nurses.
Requirements
  • Experience of working in a healthcare or social setting.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to complete accurate documentation.
  • Awareness of healthcare work and policies and procedures.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard.
  • IT skills, including basic word processing, email, and keyboard skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change, with the ability to work a range of shifts and move across wards/unit as needed.
  • Able to demonstrate a calm, caring patient manner/attitude.
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to working within the healthcare setting.
  • Able to meet the physical and developmental demands of the role.
