Network Rail is seeking a highly skilled Principal Technical Officer to join our dedicated Maintenance Engineering team. This exciting 12-month secondment/fixed-term position offers an opportunity to contribute to vital infrastructure projects across Scotland.

As a key member of the Works Delivery Track, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of railway infrastructure projects throughout their lifecycle. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving success from initial planning stages through to on-site execution and completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across all phases of project delivery, encompassing survey and geometry schemes, trackbed investigations, specification development, and Initial Methodology Review (IMR) presentations.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and test plans, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
  • Deliver on-site engineering assurance and technical support during works execution, mitigating risks and ensuring project objectives are met.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Works Delivery Track personnel, to ensure seamless project coordination and delivery.
  • Manage information flow, updating systems, databases, and records accurately and efficiently.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in technical support activities within the rail industry or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of permanent way maintenance and construction processes, systems, and standards.
  • Strong understanding of design requirements, processes, and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and embed safe working behaviors within teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling clear and concise information exchange.
  • Ability to coach, influence, and develop others effectively.
