Job Title: Co-occurring Mental Health, Alcohol and Drugs Specialist

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health Specialist to join our team at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will work with individuals who experience co-occurring mental health, alcohol, and drug difficulties, providing assessment, consultation, and short-term intervention services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enhance communication and information sharing between Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust and Substance Misuse Service Providers.
  • Strengthen joint working protocols between Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust and Substance Misuse Services in relation to discharge planning.
  • Increase engagement with Substance Misuse Services of those people with drug and alcohol dependence who are currently inpatients on mental health acute wards.
  • Reduce repeated mental health acute admissions relating to substance misuse.
  • Improve the health and social care pathway for dual diagnosis service users by enhancing engagement with appropriate services.
  • Offer consultation to all Oxleas mental health teams in the Bromley acute, crisis, and liaison mental health services.

Person Specification:

  • RMN, RGN, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist qualification and current registration.
  • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development.
  • Additional Drug and alcohol qualification (desirable).

Essential Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a Mental Health or Drug and Alcohol setting.
  • Previous drug and alcohol experience.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience of high levels of working both independently and in a team setting.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • A clear understanding of the needs and difficulties of people who experience co-occurring mental health, alcohol, and drug difficulties.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to teach practical substance management skills to service users.
