We are seeking an experienced Mental Health Specialist for Children to join our team at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical leadership and training on the delivery of care for children and young people with mental health needs in West Suffolk Hospital.

The role involves direct interventions with young people who have been admitted to West Suffolk Hospital and require support for their mental health alongside physical health needs. You will also be required to build relationships with internal and external teams to develop effective and therapeutic pathways of care that are mindful of the impact of different factors on all children's mental health and wellbeing.

This is a unique opportunity to work in a busy, friendly, rural NHS Trust providing high-quality care and compassion to more than a quarter of a million people across west Suffolk. As a Mental Health Specialist for Children, you will be part of a diverse and inclusive community where every voice counts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist assessment and advice on the care of children and young people with mental health needs and their carers/families.
  • Develop care packages and programs of care for young people with complex mental health needs, including self-harm or eating disorders.
  • Communicate complex and sensitive information and advice to child or young person and their families, carers, and professionals.
  • Review children and young people presenting in the Emergency Department (ED) or ambulatory areas with mental health-associated needs.

Requirements:

  • Post-registration clinical experience of working with children and young people with mental health needs in different settings.
  • Experience of recent involvement in practice/service development.
  • Ability to use a range of therapeutic skills and lead and manage services effectively.

About the Role:

This is a Band 7 post, and we offer a competitive salary of £52,391 - £79,916 per annum, depending on experience. We also offer a generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, and opportunities for professional development and career progression.
